BBA certified Multiboard merges water resistance, thermal insulation, and structural strength.

Multiboard can be used to insulate and waterproof walls, floors and ceilings and noticeable benefits will be gained by using any thicknesses of 10mm and above. The thinner 4mm and 6mm boards are mainly designed as waterproof tile backer board options, but these will also provide some thermal insulation. Even the thinnest boards will be useful when used with underfloor heating wire to reduce your heating costs.

The boards are lightweight and easy to cut with minimal dust, and can be tiled, plastered or rendered, both indoors and outdoors.

When creating wetroom wall and furniture curves, save time and effort with flexible Multiboards.

They be used to clad, waterproof and insulate archways and curved walls and also to create curved partition walls, curved bathroom panels, moulded tiled seats, round or curled cubicles etc.

Marmox Curved Boards are flexible boards designed to bend to the required curve ready for mosaic tiling. The boards are created to make curved designs more achievable in a fast and price competitive way. Marmox Curved Boards can be used both to clad and to create archways, curved walls and even curved bath panels ready for tiling.

Curved Boards are essentially 20mm thick Multiboards which have slits 2mm wide and 17mm deep removed from one side of the board at 20mm intervals. This allows them to be folded in on themselves to a create a radius as small as 200mm. When secured against a frame or a curved wall, they present a low porosity concrete curved surface which is pre-primed ready for either tiling or plastering.

Radii tighter than 200mm can also be created with Marmox Curved boards by folding the board in the opposite direction so that the “teeth” are opened. Please contact us on how to use this method.

Easily create a sloping wetroom floor! Showerlays are a vital part of a wetroom. These pre-sloped flooring panels with integral drainage are used to create 'level access' tiled shower areas.

Complete tiled wet rooms or simple shower areas are made using the Marmox system of a Marmox Showerlay, alongside our various other waterproofing products.

Showerlays provide a drainage area beneath the shower head, alongside Marmox Multiboard on the walls and surrounding floor. Showerlay and Multiboard both provide an exceptionally stable 'decoupling' substrate to tile upon. They also provide thermal insulation and are completely impermeable to water, eliminating the risk of leaks.

If you are currently thinking through wet room design ideas, Marmox Showerlay could be the perfect choice.

Transform any concrete floor into a tileable wetroom floor with either a linear or point Minilay Drain Kit. An easy solution for creating a bespoke wetroom sloping floor.

Point and Linear Drain Kits

A Marmox Minilay provides the flexibility and freedom to transform any concrete floor into a tileable wet-room floor. Marmox Minilays come with a choice of 705mm long stainless steel linear grates or with a 120 x 120mm stainless steel square grate.

Both of these drain types are also offered with a standard 3600 Swivel Waste with a flexible outlet (allowing for horizontal or vertical drainage) or the Slimline Waste which is just 6cm deep, which will fit the tightest of spaces, yet without compromising waste flow rate.

Marmox Decotrays are attractive, level access, synthetic stone shower trays. They offer a slip resistant surface and are simple to install - No finishing required.

Level access synthetic stone shower tray with slip resistant surface

The Marmox Decotray shower tray provides an attractive feature point to any wetroom. It is floor level sloping shower tray, which sits at the same level as the surrounding floor* creating an open, step-free showering area.

The shower tray is constructed from Marmoxite, a patented resin bound synthetic stone moulded into one of two natural stone effects: Slate Grey and Polar White.

Marmox Floorbacker boards are simple insulating tile backer boards, specifically for use on floors.

A cost effect insulation board for use with underfloor heating systems.

Made from an extruded polystyrene base, topped with a layer of fibreglass mesh embedded into a polymer cement surface, the boards create a thermal barrier between cold concrete, or wooden substrates and tiles.

Marmox Soundboards have been designed to offer impact sound reduction as a result of foot fall on tiled floors.

Impact sound reduction (on a tiled floor)

Impact sound is the type of noise Marmox SoundBoard was designed to reduce. The SoundBoard effectively removes the solid link between where the impact happens (i.e. the footfall on the tile) and the ceiling by placing a layer of rubber foam between, so the sound waves do not have a medium to pass through. This delivers a significant improvement in acoustic insulation.

A load bearing thermal insulation block which eliminates the cold bridge at the wall/floor junction.

Marmox Thermoblock is a block of load-bearing insulation material designed to be placed at the base of a masonry or timber–frame wall to address the thermal bridge. Its thermal conductivity is 0.05W/mK which will result in a significant reduction in y values when used at wall to floor junctions.

Its mean compressive strength is 9N/mm2 allowing it to be used under most load-bearing walls and its characteristic shear strength is 0.18N/mm2. Additionally, because they are impermeable to water they can be used in damp conditions without any loss of their insulating properties. So, not only do Thermoblock thermal insulation products reduce thermal bridging, but they also create a moisture barrier.

Slicedstone mosaic on a roll offers inspiring solutions for the design and renovation of bathrooms and wet rooms.

Marmox's Slicedstone Mosaic range is sized using the latest technology in laser-processing machinery, allowing for accurately cut tiles. Backed with a decoupling waterproof membrane, the tiles are precisely spaced giving consistent 3mm grout lines that are pleasing even to the most critical eye.

The Slicedstone range comes in a choice of 10 beautiful finishes. Made from 4mm slices of Indian sedimentary rock, the surface has been treated with a clear Polycarbonate solution to create a stable surface that is waterproof, stain resistant, UV resistant and allows easy removal of adhesive and grout residue.

Marmox Slicedstone Mosaics are thin layers of real natural stone. Their natural surface, variety, vivid patterns and unique tactile texture all combine to make each sheet a feast to the eyes.

These real stone veneers are a lightweight, practical and yet highly visual surface for many different applications, both internally and externally.

Using the latest technology, Marmox Slicedstone Veneers are peeled from the surface of Indian sedimentary rock and then re-engineered with a stabilised backing fleece, making them considerably more practical and cost effective than conventional, thicker cut, stone tiles. The surface of each sheet has been treated with a clear, polycarbonate solution to create a stable surface which is waterproof, stain resistant and allows for easy removal of adhesive and grout.

Each veneer sheet displays the beautiful colour variations of natural Indian sandstone. They are available to order in three sizes - 1220 x 610mm, 2100 x 1050mm & 2400 x 1050mm.

The new product’s slimline form - at just 4 (±1.5) mm thick and supplied on a specially formulated decoupling layer - means they can still be applied to curved surfaces both indoors and out.

Displaying the same beauty of natural Indian limestone, but in a way that makes them ideal for cladding/covering larger wall areas or even furniture. Their manufacture means they are both flexible and fully waterproof, as well as lightweight – being between 2.5 and 3.0kg per square metre – making them straightforward to install. They will work well in domestic bathrooms and wetrooms as well as in commercial situations like spas.

Marmox Polyprofil Stair Edgings are are made from a poplymer concrete with special fillers to protect stairs.

Guaranteed Compliance to Building Regulations

All building regulations in the UK and Ireland now say: “The building fabric should be continuous over the whole building envelope and constructed so that there are no reasonably avoidable thermal bridges in the insulation layers caused by gaps in the various elements.”

Marmox Thermoblock satisfies this requirement perfectly by connecting the wall insulation with the floor insulation.

The BBA certified Thermoblock thermal insulation was created to provide an easy, affordable and effective solution for the problem of thermal bridging. One junction of major concern has been where the wall (masonry OR timber frame) meets the floor but using Marmox Thermoblock will guarantee compliance with current regulations and also with proposed zero carbon regulations.

How to Design a Thermally Efficient Wall-Floor Junction

Marmox Thermoblock thermal insulation is NOT an aircrete thermal block. Typically it replaces the bottom row of aircrete blocks to stop the cold bridge at the critical wall/floor junction. It can also be used at the base of a timber frame or steel frame wall. Standard specifications for several applications are detailed in the instructions section at the bottom of this page.

The standard Thermoblock thickness in the UK is 65mm, which is the same height as a brick. We also manufacture Thermoblocks 100mm thick which offers even greater insulation.

To create a continuous uniform barrier, the block ends should be sealed together using our sealant, Marmox MSP360. for usage refer to specification sheets below.

BRE Third Party Accredited Junction Details - Thermal Models

The performance of Marmox Thermoblock thermal insulation in several common wall/floor junction details has been independently assessed and certified by the BRE. The BRE scheme offers an on-line database of independently assessed and certified thermal junction details which can be used in the SAP/SBEM energy assessment of the building to ensure it meets the appropriate UK and Irish building standard requirements. Using these results will save architects and designers both time and money because they will not need to have their designed modelled themselves.

Junctions incorporating the 100mm and 140mm wide block have been thermally modelled to provide a series of psi values and temperature factors (surface condensation factor fRSI) for two wall types:

With cavity walls: a)slab on ground, b) beam and block, c) suspended timber frame.

With timber frame construction: a) slab on ground, b) suspended timber frame.

http://www.bre.co.uk/certifiedthermalproducts/index.jsp?id=3055

Architects and Energy Assessors simply log onto BRE’s site and click the junction type required. BRE-Global is a UKAS accredited laboratory which gives confidence and assurance to designers that using Thermoblock thermal insulation in the common positions that have been modelled can guarantee compliance to the appropriate building standards. The full report with the results and thermal model drawings is given below in the "Datasheets" section.

Marmox Thermoblock-PIR

To insulate beneath parapets or if bituminous membranes are being applied using a flame gun, Marmox Thermoblock-PIR, the flame resistant version must be used. These blocks are 53mm thick and available in 100mm and 140mm wide versions and are designed to be resistant to distortion that a flame gun might cause on the standard XPS version.

PLEASE NOTE: 'Thermoblock-PIR' is not stocked in the UK. It is made to order and therefore there is a 6 - 8 week lead time. Standard versions are always kept in stock but if you require this version you should order a couple of months in advance.

Marmox - The Thermal Insulation Experts

One of the easiest and most affordable ways to significantly cut the amount of energy used by a home, office building or public premises is by making use of effective insulation products - and the Thermoblock from Marmox is one solution that can certainly make a difference. Whether you're interested in making a building more environmentally friendly, meeting regulations or simply cheaper to keep warm in the winter, Thermoblock could be the perfect solution to thermal bridging problems. In addition to the BRE accredited designs, we can offer a limited and basic thermal modelling analysis of your specific junction type.

Here at Marmox, we are experts in providing sustainable and cost-effective building products to construction and refurbishment professionals throughout the UK and Ireland. We supply products both through major nationals and independent stockists.

Use as a Render Board

Marmox Fireboard can be fitted to masonry, timber or steel frame constructions. Available in 20mm, 50mm and 100mm, Fireboards are rigid enough to be fitted directly to timber batons, yet they are easy enough to cut with a hand saw and lightweight enough to be installed single handed. Once installed the joints are taped with Marmox mesh tape.

Use on Ceilings

Line ceilings with Fireboard to help prevent the spread of fire from floor to floor in multi-storey buildings. As thin as 20mm, Fireboards can be easily installed and then finished off with a coat of plaster, ready to paint. With impressive acoustic properties, they help prevent airborne sound from noisy neighbours.

What are Fireboards made from?

Made using a blend of Marmox mineral stone wool, which is then coated on the sides with a fibreglass mesh embedded in our unique Marmox honeycomb cement based surface. This has been tried and tested for many years on our popular Marmox Multiboards. This offers an ideal surface for applying a finish coat of render or plaster.

Technical Properties

Pull out performance for various base materials - Concrete: 0.80kN Brick: 0.75kN HD Block: 0.45kN

Shear Loading - Maximum recommended shear load per fixing is 0.15kN

Application Temperature = -30oC to +90oC - All materials used for the fixing body and expansion pin are fully resistant to corrosion.

A minimum 30 mm embedment depth into the wall is recommended.

If using with a dab of adhesive then it should be noted that up to an additional 10mm will be added to the overall thickness.

An increasing proportion of buildings and residential dwellings encounter problems related to noise. In addition, as we create more multi-occupancy buildings within our cities and towns, the issue of controlling sound through building design and construction is crucial.

Marmox sound reduction solutions for floors help architects, developers and contractors to achieve compliance with the requirements of Part E of the Building Regulations. In England, Wales, Ireland or section 5 of the Scottish Building Standards, both relate to the resistance to the passage of sound within a property. These include the requirements for sound insulation in both new dwellings and dwellings-houses and flats formed by material change of use.

Noise on tiled floors

Ceramic tiles on floors can make noises such as footsteps sound even louder in the room below. Many local authorities do not allow tiled bathrooms in shared accommodation for this very reason.

Marmox SoundBoard enables floors to be tiled without the danger of causing noise pollution to the people in the room or flat below. This soundproof insulation product is available in two thicknesses: 8mm and 12mm. While both thicknesses contribute a sound reduction of approximately 20dB, the difference between them is that the 12mm board provides more thermal insulation than the 8mm version.

Marmox SoundBoard is much more than just an impact sound reduction layer - it also provides decoupling so that lateral movement in the floor is absorbed by the board and not by the tiles so the tiles don’t crack. It is completely waterproof and, as well as improving acoustic insulation, helps to lock in heat in rooms where it's fitted.

How to install SoundBoard

The first step is to fix the boards, rubber-side down, to the floor. Use either a thin bed of flexible tile adhesive or Marmox MSP360. MSP360 absorbs sound waves, thereby offering slightly more sound reduction and insulation than just using the boards on their own.

Irrespective of which adhesion method is used, a gap of about 4mm should be left between the edge of the boards and the wall, which is then filled with a visco-elastic adhesive such as Multibond to eliminate the possibility of flanking sound happening there.

After you have installed our sound proof insulation and absorption products, tape over the joints and tile as normal.

The trays are supplied with a compact drain kit comprising of an attractive brushed stainless steel grate and gulley with a 50mm water seal (to ensure smells from the drain cannot escape.

The drain is also adjustable to make the outlet pipe horizontal, vertical or any angle in between.

*Marmox Decotray shower tray can be used with Marmox Plinth to create a raised platform if required.

Our wet room shower trays are perfect for any bathroom, giving you the peace of mind when you install bathroom products for your customers. Wet room shower trays provided by Marmox are of the highest quality, provided by the experts and supplied with instructions on how best to fit the products.

    Point Drain

A Marmox Minilay is a drainage waste which has been factory fitted into a height adjustable frame which itself sits within a small rigid board. This small board provides a solid area immediately around the drain from which the shower floor can be continued with the screed.

An overlapping layer of waterproof fleece is also fitted to the top of this board which is used to provide a seamless waterproof junction with the screed.

A choice of waste is available for both types of drain:

3600 Swivel - Where the outlet can be rotated to accommodate horizontal or vertical connection of waste – or anywhere in between.

Low-profile - For those where underfloor space is at a premium, our low-profile Slimline Waste drain will fit the tightest of spaces, yet without compromising waste flow rate.

    Linear Drain

The Marmox Minilay Linear drain comes complete with a specially designed linear drain. Available options include:

3600 Swivel - Where the outlet can be rotated to accommodate horizontal or vertical connection of waste – or anywhere in between.

Low-profile - For those where underfloor space is at a premium, our low-profile Slimline Waste drain will fit the tightest of spaces, yet without compromising waste flow rate.

Each is a 2 component piece, compromising a choice of drain housing and grate. Choose your grating from the Square, Standard, or Circle design or ask about the Tileable Carrier.

    Point Grate Options

Choose your grating from the Square or Circle design.

    Linear Grate Options

Choose your grating from the Standard, Square, Circle or Tileable design.

Marmox Showerlay is available in many sizes and in two versions:

The 40mm thick version has a stylish brushed stainless steel linear channel drain. The 20/24mm thick version has a square brushed stainless steel drain in various locations.

The height of the point drain is adjustable by screwing in the insert holding the grate frame. Remember, the height of the grate will be slightly higher than the height of the grate frame, so this should be accounted for when considering the height of the tiles which should be flush with the top of the grate, not the grate frame.

    Universal Drain

A new compact drain, at just 80mm deep with a 50mm water seal, has been developed to work with both our Showerlay bases. The gully can be adjusted to make the outlet pipe horizontal, vertical or any angle in between. Depending on the angle of the outlet pipe, the flow rate is 30 to 50 litres per minute. The versatility of this product makes it a valuable part of any wet room kit.

    Different Styles

    Choose from three distinct styles:

    • Regular
    • Square
    • Chair

All to suit your design preferences and space requirements. Whether you need a simple seating solution or a more intricate design, Marmox Wet Room Benches provide the perfect foundation.

    Slicedtone Tiles

The perfect way to finish off your bench is with Marmox Slicedstone Mosaic tiles. Natural stone tiles on a roll available in 10 different colour styles.

For added flexibility, these benches can be easily lined up next to each other to extend their length, ensuring a seamless fit in any wet room configuration.

Transform your bathroom with Marmox Wetroom Benches, combining functionality and aesthetics.

    Dimensions and Stacking

With dimensions of 1200 x 1200mm and a gradient ranging from 33mm to 10mm, these boards offer versatility and seamless integration with other Marmox products. They can be effortlessly combined with 20mm thick Multiboard to extend the slope as needed, providing flexibility for various design requirements.

    Balconies and Terraces

For balconies and terraces requiring both internal and external certification, Marmox Sloping Multiboard is the ideal choice, guaranteeing both performance and peace of mind.

These shower niches are comprised of an extruded polystyrene core coated on either side with a thin but robust layer of fibreglass reinforced polymer concrete.

Marmox Shower Niches are fixed to the wall usually on a frame, so that the front lip of the niche is flush with the Marmox Multiboard on the wall. The joints between the shower niche and the Multiboard are sealed together with Marmox Waterproof Tape.

    • Completely waterproof
    • Provides thermal insulation
    • Ready to tile
    • Lightweight and easy to work with
    • All niches are made with 12.5mm thick board and fit wall cavities 100mm or deeper
    • Comes already constructed which guarantees the conformity and the size

Their ease of use, practical benefits and elegant appearance could make a Marmox Shower Niche the perfect addition to your wet room shower. Shower niches are extremely practical when wet rooms are being created and work exceptionally well with Marmox Multiboards.

    How to use

Make sure your boxing is the correct length. They come as standard in 1.25m lengths and can be placed on top of one another for full height. They are easy to cut with a knife or saw and can be cut in straight lines and around uneven structures.

Marmox pipe boxing is specially formed to produce a 90º right angle when folded. A double sided, waterproof, self adhesive tape is situated within the fold to hold the board in place during installation.

Peel the tape away and fold to create the 90º angle.

If applying it to a stud wall of Marmox board then place a bead of Marmox Multibond along the edge of the Marmox pipe boxing. If the Marmox pipe boxing is going to be against a solid wall then it is recommended to use Marmox Wall Brackets. Use two per side of a 1.25m length.

Be sure to mark against the wall and drill out the hole positions. Place the Marmox pipe boxing in place and push firmly. Add screw fixings, then run a bead of Marmox Multibond around the top the Marmox pipe boxing if you are going to add more Marmox pipe boxing.

Add Marmox Multibond / Marmox Wall Brackets to the next piece of Marmox pipe boxing and push it firmly into place making sure it is well in line. Add screws. Now add some more Marmox Multibond to all the joints.

As soon as the Multibond has cured (24 hours) the Marmox Pipe Boxing is fully waterproof and can be tiled. Although the most common application is to create boxed-in tiled structures, the boards can also be plastered and painted to fit in with the surrounding room.

    How to use

Against a curved solid surface, the boards are curved “inwards” to close the cuts, i.e. they are placed with the cut surface against the wall. The curved boards are then fixed to the wall with a continuous bed of flexible tile adhesive. Marmox Curved Boards can be used this way if the radius of the curve is 200mm or greater.

With centres at 300mm, the Curved Board can also be fixed to a frame using screws and washers.

    Size

Marmox Curved Boards are made from 20mm Marmox Board, 600mm x 1250mm. The cuts on our curved boards are across the width.

Waterproofing and tiling: As a tile and shower backer board, it provides an effective decoupling membrane to prevent tiles and grout from cracking due to horizontal movement in the floor. The unique patented surface of Marmox Multiboard allows heavier tiles to be safely and securely fixed to walls. Being completely impermeable to water, it is doubly useful in areas prone to moisture, making it a good option for anyone looking for a kitchen or bathroom tile board.

Insulation: The XPS foam core of Marmox Multiboards provides effective thermal insulation. These boards can be used to insulate walls, floors, and ceilings, reducing heat transfer and improving energy efficiency. They are particularly useful in areas that require enhanced insulation, such as basements, exterior walls, and cold storage rooms.

Underfloor heating systems: Marmox Multiboards are widely used with underfloor heating systems. They can be laid over the subfloor, providing both insulation and a stable surface for the heating elements. Multiboards help to distribute heat evenly across the floor, enhancing the efficiency of the heating system.

Replacement for plasterboard: Use Multiboards as a direct replacement for plasterboard. Marmox Multiboards have a robust honeycomb surface finish that is ideal for applying a coat of plaster. The surface allows for the plaster to stick to it while the XPS prevent the plaster from drying out too fast and cracking.

Partition walls: Marmox Multiboards can be used to construct lightweight partition walls. Their insulation properties contribute to maintaining a comfortable indoor environment by reducing heat loss and sound transmission. They are easy to cut, shape and install, which makes them a flexible option for creating interior divisions or blocking up door/window openings.

Exterior cladding: Multiboards are also certified to be used externally. Cover outer walls to improve a building’s energy efficiency. The reinforced fibreglass mesh ensures stability, and the Multiboards can be finished with a render to enhance their aesthetics and weather resistance.
